The Elizabeth Block Memorial Scholarship

We are pleased to announce the Elizabeth Block Memorial Scholarship, a $16,000 award available to a deserving member of the Science Leadership Academy (SLA) Class of 2026. Dr. Block was dedicated to helping students overcome academic concerns and always willing to assist with college applications.  This award would be awarded in increments of $4,000  each year of matriculation with the stipulation that the awarded student maintains a 2.5 GPA.

Eligibility

Must be a current member of the SLA Class of 2026
Must be in good academic standing maintaining a 2.5 GPA
Must have a financial need for the scholarship

Award Amount

$4,000 per academic year totaling $16,000

The selected recipient will receive a scholarship of $4,000 each academic year to support their future educational endeavors.

Application Requirements

Interested students are required to submit an essay meeting the following criteria:

Topic: “How I Have Made SLA a Better School During My Time in High School”
Length: 500-750 words
Format: Double-spaced, 12-point font
Essay Guidelines

In your essay, consider addressing the following points:

Specific initiatives or projects or groups you have led or participated in
How your actions have positively impacted the SLA community
Personal growth and lessons learned through your contributions
Your vision for the future of SLA and how you’ve helped shape it.

Submission Deadline

May 29, 2026

Essays should be submitted here.

Selection Process

Essays will be reviewed by a committee of faculty members and representatives from the Elizabeth Block family. The recipient will be chosen based on the quality of their essay, and the impact of their contributions to SLA.

Notification

The scholarship recipient will be notified by June 5, 2024.
