To the SLA Community,

It is with a heavy heart that I share that Science Leadership Academy’s founding secretary, Ms. Diane LoGiudice has passed away. Ms. Diane – as we all called her – worked at SLA from its inception in 2006 through her retirement in November 2021. There is no way to fully communicate all that she meant to the SLA community. She was everyone’s “School Mom,” making sure that the Main Office was a warm and welcoming place for all who entered – students, staff, parents and visitors – even as she was also the most incredible mom to her own children Stephen and Bree (Class of 2010.)

Ms. Diane and BreeFrom her ability to manage our Main Office that was always filled with students and staff, to the warmth she showed every morning when folks came into the office to start their day, to how she took such incredibly good care of a young principal who really had no idea what he was doing, to the way everyone at SLA looked forward to the last day before Winter Break when Ms. Diane would bring in pounds and pounds of Dipped In Chocolate treats, Diane embodied SLA’s ethic of care. We are all so deeply indebted to all that she did to help build SLA – we would not be the school we are today without her tireless efforts and belief in both our mission and in all of the people who walked through our doors.

We all are so saddened by her loss, and we mourn with her family that she did not have more time to enjoy her richly deserved retirement.

Rest in Peace, Ms. Diane – you are deeply, deeply loved.

– Mr. Lehmann
