The SLA Softball team captured the 4A Public League Championship on Friday, defeating Philadelphia Performing Arts 5-1 in a dominant performance from start to finish.

Junior pitcher Karlee McDowell was virtually untouchable, striking out 18 batters over a complete-game seven innings to anchor the victory. Her performance set the tone early and never let the opposition find its footing.

Offensively, the Rockets were equally sharp. Catherine Vetri went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs, and Katherine Diemer added a 2-for-3 performance of her own with an RBI, giving SLA the consistent production at the plate to back up McDowell’s brilliance on the mound.

The Public League title is a testament to the team’s hard work and resilience throughout the season — and the Rockets aren’t done yet. On Monday, SLA advances to the 4A District 12 Championship, where they’ll have the opportunity to add another title to what is already a memorable postseason run.
